And mumdishes is my little corner of the internet!
I started mumdishes back in 2018 while I was still teaching third grade at a public school in Asheville, NC. Between grading papers and chasing after three‑year‑olds, I found myself scribbling recipes on napkins during lunch breaks. By the time the school year ended, I’d compiled 30 family‑favorite dishes and posted them on a simple WordPress blog. The first post—my “One‑Pan Chicken & Veggies” recipe—went live on March 14, 2019.
Fast forward to today, mumdishes has turned into a modest food hub that reaches about 45 000 unique visitors each month and hosts over 150 000 published recipes. In January 2022 I launched a YouTube channel, which now has 20 000 subscribers and more than 3 million total views. Our newsletter, started in June 2020, delivers weekly menus to a community of 10 000 home cooks who love quick, comforting meals. The site now features a searchable recipe index, a seasonal ingredient guide, and a “Kids Cook” section that I added after my youngest asked, “Can I help make dinner?”
I live in Asheville with my husband Mark and our two energetic kids, Lily (7) and Sam (4). When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll find me hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains, tending to my herb garden on the back porch, or flipping Sunday pancakes while the kids chase each other around the kitchen island. My favorite things are fresh basil, a good cup of coffee, and the sound of a timer going off—because that means dinner is almost ready.
One quirky habit I have is to name every new skillet I buy after a family member. My current favorite is “Sam’s Skillet,” a 12‑inch cast‑iron that’s already seen its fair share of stir‑fry and midnight chocolate chip cookies. It’s the little details like that which keep mumdishes feeling like home.
